The Design and Stewardship of our Cultural, Building, and Landscape Heritage
•  Welcome  •

Firm:

Traditional Building Collaborative, Inc is a local firm of experienced design professionals and building craftspersons redefining the way we treat our built environment.  Our mission is to add value to the community through design, consultation, and construction for new projects, historic preservation, and landscapes.

Clients:

Each town, village, and city throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic has a story tell.  The traditions passed from each generation can be seen in the local architecture of the Town Hall, the Library, the General Store, and the Home.  We strive to work one on one with your local community on the preservation or design of a new building to fit within the local vernacular.  Our team has expertise working with house museums, not-for-profits, community buildings, and residential clients.

Knowledge:

Since the 17th century, buildings in America were designed and built using builders’ manuals and pattern books, many of which can be found in our firm’s library.  Our hope is to continue to develop new traditions within the realm of construction, based on the methods developed throughout history.

Process:

Building projects of any size and type can be a journey of uncertainty with many variables.  Hundreds of decisions must be made throughout the design process.  Our role is to provide you with the best information in the form of design options, cost estimates, and overall feasibility allowing you to make the best decisions for your project.  We provide a single point of contact for you during the project, thus providing the entire team a clear vision to the end goal.

The first step to any problem is to clearly identify the problems and goals of the project. Our investigative and forensic process will efficiently identify your short and long term goals.   Our initial consultations are low cost and we typically offer the first hour for free to our local clients.

Eric N. Kuchar of Traditional Building Collaborative was recently offered a six month part-time Site Administrator position with The Speaker's House, the former home of Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, First Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and the first signer of the Bill of Rights.  The house, currently in the stabilization phase will be moving forward to a full restoration.
